Winding up for surgery

I have been diagnosed with a hernia. HOW EMBARRASSING. I found out it is very common and an easy fix. I however, have different thoughts. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow, will find out what exactly needs to be done and will express my FEAR of ANESTHESIA! It sounds crazy but it is true. For some odd reason, I don't want to be "put under" but may not have a choice. I wonder how I will prepare for this?
